Dr. Mauricio Tejera
Researcher Plant Physiology
Mauricio Tejera-Nieves joined the JII in September 2024 to study how (and when) sink limitations affect photosynthesis, growth, and crop yield.
Mauricio received his MSc from Universidad de la República (Uruguay) in Plant Ecology, his PhD from Iowa State University (USA) in Crop Physiology and worked at Michigan State University (USA) as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Biology. He complements his ecophysiology background with a comprehensive understanding of cropping systems, modeling, and statistics, to leverage his plant physiology research within the context of agricultural production.
Within the JII, Mauricio’s research focuses on addressing the biological processes of sink limitations to photosynthesis in the context of plant development and environmental changes. His goal is to apply this knowledge to help advance breeding programs, management practices, and ultimately crop production.
