Dr. Thekla von Bismarck

Research Fellow

Thekla von Bismarck is a Research Fellow at the Jan IngenHousz Institute since January 2024. She has gained her PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in 2023. Thekla’s main interests lie in understanding how photosynthesis copes with natural conditions, specifically drastic and fast changes in light intensity that are encountered in the field. These conditions require rapid regulation of photosynthesis on a molecular level to optimize the balance between efficient light capture and protection from photodamage.

At the JII, Thekla’s research focuses on understanding the dynamic and regulatory connection of the photosynthetic light reactions with downstream metabolism. When and how metabolic reactions are limiting for photosynthesis in the real world are the key questions of her research.
